Can you tell us more about your background and how you got started in the music industry?

Mxhosa Emelika was born in The City Of Freestate bloemfontein . At age 8 in 2007, I moved to the Eastern Cape East London Scenery Park. That is where I met Hip hop as a Youngin. Inspired by the likes of King Trust, Gaza crew & other solo artists by then. At age 10 2009 I started writing my own music but never had a studio to go to at that time. Fast forward years later when I was 14 met Verbal he introduced me to some studios in Scenery & also had me Participating in Kumkani FM rap Battles & freestyle. I started off with King Laqaza as my Stage name.



What inspired you to become a rapper and pursue a career in music?

The lifestyle of the Culture inspired me.

How would you describe your musical style and what sets you apart from other artists?

I’m a very versatile artist hence I can Rap logically & Trap effortlessly. I always unlock new flows on every record

Could you share the story behind your mixtape "TIME WILL TELL MY TRUTH"? What themes or messages do you explore in your music?

TimeWillTellMyTruth Ep I’m Safe to safe is one of the Projects that made a statement for me in & out of the City. It's based on the life of somethings that I have gone through as an artist to get where I'm at. The EP is based on Facts only No 🧢in it. It also educates a lot about the Streets. A lotta of motivational lyrics are penned on the Tape from tracks 1-6.

What was the creative process like in creating your mixtape? Did you face any challenges during its production?

It took me almost a year to put it all together. I had to change studios & had to. Work with different producers around the City to Hit the Perfect Sound. \Also had to move out of my mama's house for me to record on sleepless nights

As a South African rapper, how do you incorporate your culture and heritage into your music?

Hence I’m Xhosa Tribe & I sound so American sometimes that I decided to invent the Xhosamerican concept. I put in my Home language with the American accent. I intend to put Xhosa to the World

What are some of the main influences that have shaped your musical journey?

Staying true to myself & being me at all times no matter the odds.


Are there any specific artists or rappers who have inspired or influenced your sound?

A lot of Young Thung &Lil Wayne then With lyricism it Been Priddy Ugly 

How do you feel about the current state of the rap and hip-hop scene in South Africa?

We are at our Peak with the sound & moves so far it’s how I feel.

What are your future goals and aspirations as an artist? Any upcoming projects or collaborations that we can look forward to?

I’ve already dropped the XHOSAMERICAN mixtape with some dope features check it out on all digital platforms. Rich Homie Quan from the US slid my Instagram DM for work, but that will no longer happen he recently passed away.

How do you connect with your audience through your music? What kind of impact do you hope to make with your songs?

I'm an Internet Rapper so I make sure I always have content for my followers on all SMP’s. My music is for the streets and I want my people to be real & proud of who they are.

Can you share any memorable experiences or highlights from your career so far?

It has to be This collaboration with Quan.

Are there any challenges that you faced as a rapper from East London? How did you overcome them?

I suffered a lot to get Studio time but fortunately, I met people who saw beyond the vision & had me put in the booth

What advice would you give to aspiring rappers or musicians who are just starting out?

To work hard & never give up
