Who is skoloto ZADDY.
(Born: Wanda Wandile Nozewu) is an Artist From one of the towns in the Eastern Cape, Mount Frere.
IAmOnedar shared with us his journey into the world of music and how he got started as a rapper.
IAMONDAR SKOLOTO ZADDY went to school in Kwa Zulu Natal, Margate. He began as a Hip Hop Dancer till High School. He was exposed to the life of making music by friends that had studios which deflected his focus from dancing to music despite him not know how to write a single metaphor but he found his way with the influence of great rappers such Notorious B.I.G. Until he was caught stealing some of his lines that inspired him to write his own and use a better skillset.
How has growing up in the Eastern Cape influenced IAmOnedar's music and lyrical content
Coming from Kwa Bhaca, the place of his birth, where most youth are disadvantaged and exposed to scarcity, fortunate resources to showcase talent, and ending up using substances touched this young artist's heart. This led him to become what is called "The Voice Of The Hood" because his music is based on matters that he experiences in his surroundings on a daily basis.
How His Xhosa Heritage Influences His Music and Sets Him Apart from Other Rappers
There's no ethnic group greater than the Xhosa Clan to start with, so with everything, we as Xhosa people always got to stand out. And with my music, I ensure I tell people about how we are singamaxhosa and how we live singabahlali becinga ukuba into esiyaziyo kukwelusa inkomo nokuhlala sitya umnqusho.. but there's so much that's hidden Abantu abangayazi nge Eastern Cape as A Whole.
What motivates and inspires IAmOnedar to create music?
Pain being at the top shelf of what influences his music, it doesn't stop him from making Club bangers to shift the audience minds from what they are already facing like the famous quotes say "when people paid an entertainer they shouldn't be reminded the ugly things that are happening in this world".
Can you share with us some insights into your creative process when writing and producing music?
"Working with Producers such as Kevin Ras, who works at Eastern Corner Studios, has been a blessing to me. We start everything from scratch by dissecting the beat, create hooks then start writing" says the artist.
IAmOnedar did not work with Eastern Cape artists only, he has experience working with underground rappers from Gauteng such as Yung Stavo, La Wave, and Inkinga The Trouble
“Gauteng hiphop is insane iyafana Nathi ngapha kwaXhosa because of the native language we use”. And working with various artists such as La Wave, Stavo, and Inkinga The Trouble, who are mixing their mother tongue with primarily language played a big role in his career when it comes to pen game despite giving him tough competition.
How has working with these underground rappers influenced IAmOnedar own musical style or approach?
“In a way yes ngoba I was more into rapping in English up until I heard them mixing their Sitwana and shit was really sick and that is where I decided to rap both in English and xhosa”
What sets his music apart from other artists in the industry?
"I'm the best to come out of is Eastern Cape my unique style makes me thrive and I'm better the mosts favourite rappers my music speaks for itself" says the artist.
What challenges has IAmOnedar faced in his music career, and how has he overcome them?
As we all face challenges, his are quite direct to his music because he touched on a situation whereby he can't get a studio time and gigs aren't paying him so that he pay producers but that doesn't stop him from doing what he loves the most.
What message or emotions do you aim to convey through your music?
“Always keep humble no matter the money you make. Don't trust anybody, but ensure to be yourself and be great at all times. Trials and tribulations always come, but challenges are meant to groom, not destroy, and lastly, always choose you.. that's more of what I preach in my music,” says the artist.
How do you see the future of your music evolving, and what are your goals in the industry?
I wanna change how we are viewed as Eastern Cape rappers. I want the whole world to know that amaXhosa akadlali and awaGivi maFakhi.. we are leaders, not followers, trendsetters. I wanna do it for my people. This journey is not just for me but kudala besbhekela phantsi, and now is the time we change the narrative.
Any upcoming projects or collaborations that your fans can look forward to?
His goal in music right now is to put Amaxhosa out there to the world that's he has a tape is working on called COLOURED SEASON that follows BLACK AND WHITE SEASON, in Coloured Season he mentioned having two features from Jozi and Mt Frere.
